Students in the Department of International Studies were asked to share their thoughts about the university. The first question presented to the students is:
“How did you choose Chinzei Gakuin University (Nagasaki Wesleyan University)?”
Student responses are as follows:
The reason why I chose Nagasaki Wesleyan University is to be close to international students and opportunity to volunteer. I have been studying foreign languages since I was in high school. However, I realized that although I was able to input in class, I didn’t have a lot of opportunities to contribute. At that time, I looked Nagasaki Wesleyan University’s website and saw that it mentioned that close to international students. One of the reasons why I chose Nagasaki Wesleyan University is because I thought I would be able to have everyday conversations with international students. I also think that being able to participate in various volunteer activities is an advantage. Through the CSL class, you can participate in local volunteer activities and contribute to the community. By participating in local volunteer activities, you can learn about the area and energize it. I think it is a great advantage to be able to participate in volunteer activities as a way of showing thanks to the community that we support on a daily basis. These are the reasons why I chose Nagasaki Wesleyan University. After entering the university, I have actually felt closer to international students and I feel that I’m able to participate in volunteer activities not only local community but also within the school.

The reason I chose the Department of Multicultural Communication is because I was able to study Korean, Chinese, and English. I have loved foreign languages since I was in junior high school, and I loved Korean so much that I studied it on my own. I chose this university because I wanted to continue to improve the language skills I had cultivated in my three years of high school in college and entered a department where I could study foreign languages. When I participated in the open campus and listened to the department explanation, I learned that the distance between the students and the international students was very close and I could interact with them a lot, so I began to think about taking the entrance exam. At that time, I had the opportunity to communicate with senior students, and I felt that the distance between the students and the teachers was very close, which made me feel very attractive and made me want to enter the university even more. Being close to the teachers means that even if there is something I don’t understand, I can easily ask questions and have a fulfilling university life. These were the main reasons why I wanted to enter this university. Also, I think that the distance between students is less than at other universities, so I can quickly open up to them even if I am anxious about university life, and I can have a fun time every day. The number of students is smaller than other universities, so I also felt that it was attractive to be able to take classes in small groups.

I choose Chinzei Gakuin University (Nagasaki Wesleyan University) because I would like to study English skills and international situations. And it was related to my experience and many people’s advice. A lot of foreign people have visited Nagasaki city for sightseeing or working with Japanese company, I’ve seen such people since I was a child. luxury cruise ships or observation ships from foreign countries and frequently I can see the passengers or crew members having conversations at a nearby wharf. So, I’m interested in English conversation used in daily life or workplaces to talk about various topics. After entering high school, I would like to study English more practically through the university’s education. I’ve felt that I have to increase my conversation and pronunciation skills there. Plus, my grandmother recommended entering university based on her experience. During the examination season I searched for a university where I can know the way to communicate with foreign students and international situations. I thought a lot about whether to get a job or continue to college after graduating from Japanese language school. I decided to go to college. When I was wondering which school to enter, I consulted with my seniors and found that Chinzei Gakuin University’s Foreign Language Department was interesting. I attended the school information session where the teachers gave me a detailed explanation and I also liked the relaxed atmosphere of the school. The school’s name is Chinzei Gakuin University, also known as Nagasaki Wesleyan University. Chinzei Gakuin University has a system called a qualification roadmap and I think that I can make my own plan and study efficiently by following the advice of teachers and seniors. In addition, my seniors were able to get a job in Japan after graduating and do the job they wanted to do well. My goal is to improve my Japanese language ability and communication skills so that I can get a job in Japan and do the job I want to do. I think this school is a good environment to study, develop myself and achieve the goals I have set. That’s why I chose Chinzei Gakuin University. Now I still think that my decision back then was the right one.

I chose this university for the following two points: The first reason is if you could get a special scholarship using an Eiken, tuition fee would be lower, and it would be easier to go study abroad. Other universities which offer the system of exempting honor students from paying tuition required one to pass the level Pre-1 or 2, but you could give a special scholarship even level Pre-2 at this university. It will be a considerably key point when you decide on a university. The next reason is about studying abroad. Chinzei Gakuin university has a lot of partner schools. There are partner universities in Korea, Thailand, Chinese-speaking countries and English-speaking countries. Actually, when I started my university life, I was just interested in studying abroad a little bit. However, as I obtained knowledge about studying abroad, my interest was sparked and I determined to go to an English-speaking country. After I enrolled in this university, I thought it is easier to be selected for studying abroad compared to other universities because the number of students in this university is little and the competition is low. I believe this is a big advantage for the high school students who are wanting to go study abroad. Those two points are the main reason I chose this university.

I made the decision to enroll in this university after attending an open campus. I had always loved makeup and fashion and wanted to pursue a career in the beauty field. However, as a member of the international studies department in high school, I was also interested in foreign languages, especially international cooperation. That is why I attended the open campus of this university, which is close to my house. When I participated in this program, one of the professors shared his thoughts on international cooperation, which resonated with me. He also gave me an overview of the classes available in the Department of Foreign Languages and explained in detail about studying abroad. The seniors were also very friendly and open, which I found very enjoyable, even though I attended alone. At that time, I was told by my high school teachers and parents that only a handful of people would succeed in the beauty industry. With that in mind, I wanted to study something related to international cooperation and to spend my last days as a student at this university, which is surrounded by a friendly and homey atmosphere. For these reasons, I decided to apply to Chinsei Gakuin University.

Choosing Chinzei Gakuin University (Nagasaki Wesleyan University) was a significant decision influenced by several factors. First and foremost, the university’s strong emphasis on liberal arts education resonated with my desire for a well-rounded academic experience. The curriculum offered diverse courses that encourage critical thinking and creativity, which I believe are essential skills in today’s world. Moreover, the university’s location in Nagasaki, a city rich in history and culture, played a vital role in my choice. The city’s historical significance, especially its role in international relations, adds an enriching dimension to my studies. Additionally, I appreciated the university’s commitment to internationalization. I chose this university for three reasons. One is that the tuition fees are lower under the special student scholarship system, another is that it is within commuting distance from my house, and the third is that I can specialize in foreign languages. When I was choosing a university, I thought I could take advantage of the special student program because I had a level 2 English proficiency test. It was very helpful that my tuition was reduced to half price. Another condition for attending the university that my parents had set for me was that it be within commuting distance from my parents’ home. I am not from a very wealthy family and living alone is expensive, so now I commute by train from my home, which takes about one hour. I wanted to study abroad at the time, so this university, which also focuses on study abroad, was very attractive to me. I thought that studying abroad would be very expensive, so I thought this university would be the best place for me to study a foreign language because it provides good support. The professors at this university are very friendly and approachable, and I think it is a great school that listens carefully to its students.

I chose this school for three reasons: The first is because I thought I would go on an exchange program if I had the chance at this school. I wanted to become an English speaker, and I felt that I would be able to learn English in depth if I went on an exchange program. I saw my friends actually studying abroad, and although I was anxious, I felt that I wanted to take on the challenge myself. Secondly, I was chosen as a special student and was allowed to attend the school with a reduced tuition fee. I wanted to go to school as cheaply as possible, so I was very happy when I was chosen as a special student. I am doing my best in school everyday so that I don’t lose my grades. The third reason is that it was within easy commuting distance from my house. I wanted to go to a school that I could commute to from my home because I do not like to be away from my family. Therefore, I wanted to choose a school in Nagasaki Prefecture that was close to my house. Therefore, I am very happy to be able to attend this school.

There are several reasons why I chose Chinzei Institute University. First, it is academically attractive. The university had a particular focus on international relations and area studies, which were areas of great interest to me. Another major factor was that the professors were professional and enthusiastic. I was impressed by their passion for education when I spoke to them directly at the open campus. Secondly, the campus environment. With the beautiful nature and historical background of Nagasaki, I felt that there were many opportunities not only to learn but also to get in touch with the local community. Student life is also fulfilling, with plenty of opportunities for club activities and contributing to the local community. Furthermore, I was also pleased to find that many classes were held in small groups and that the close proximity to the teaching staff meant that I was able to receive individual guidance. All of these factors convinced me that Chinsei Gakuin University was the perfect place to deepen what I wanted to learn, and I decided to enroll.

I chose Chinzei Gakuin University because it offers a great education and a friendly environment for international students. I’m especially interested in their programs in humanities and social sciences, which have a strong reputation here. Also, the university is very supportive of international students like me. They offer Japanese language classes and help us adjust to life in Japan, which is very reassuring. Another reason is the location. Being in Kyushu, it’s not only beautiful but also more affordable than some other cities in Japan, which is important for a student budget. Plus, the weather is nice! Finally, I’m excited about the career support they provide. The university has connections with companies for internships and job opportunities, so I feel it will help me build my future here. Overall, I think Chinzei Gakuin is a great place to grow academically and personally.

I have three reasons for choosing Chinzei Gakuin University. First, when I was a high school student, I wanted to go study abroad. The reason why I want to go is to know diverse values. These days, the most important thing for students is to understand other’s values. I believe if we go overseas, we will face culture shock. Face culture shock is a good experience to spread our sight. Second, we can take the classes on small scale. I prefer to take the class with fewer people. If we do this way, we can receive comprehensive support. In my case, my friends could take a special lesson for Eiken from the professor in their free time. If our university was a huge one, I think that would be impossible. I am enjoying learning in this environment. Third, the tuition is cheaper than other universities. Students always struggle with how to manage their money. Our university’s tuition is cheap. So we can use the money for other things in which we are interested. My friend spent money on a hobby that interests her and it made her life happy. For these reasons that I mentioned above, there are many good points so I choose this university.
