On January 22, 2025, Professors Santos and Noboriyama, two esteemed professors in the Department of International Studies, shared a special farewell presentation during the “Peace Hour” assembly to honor their services at Nagasaki Wesleyan University (鎖西学院大学). Their presentations highlighted their rich experiences and lasting contributions to our university community.

Professor Santos: A Journey of Divine Appointment

Professor Santos joined Nagasaki Wesleyan University in 2020, coming to us from the University of Baguio in the Philippines. She described her time at Nagasaki Wesleyan University as a “divine appointment” and expressed joy in teaching classes on Asian and Western Culture, as well as English Proficiency. Despite the challenges of starting her new role during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Santos adapted quickly and became an integral part of the university.

In 2021, she founded the university’s English Club, creating a space for students to practice their language skills and build confidence. Her efforts extended beyond the classroom; in 2023, she led three faculty members from the Department of International Studies on a memorable study trip to the University of Baguio and Emilio Aguinaldo College in the Philippines. This trip strengthened international ties and provided valuable cultural exchange opportunities.

Reflecting on her time at NWU, Professor Santos emphasized the deep friendships she formed in Nagasaki and the fulfillment she found in her role. Her passion and dedication have left a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike.

Professor Noboriyama: A Champion of International Business and Language

Professor Noboriyama began his journey with Nagasaki Wesleyan University in 2018. Originally from Osaka, he mastered the Chinese language and became a key figure in promoting Chinese culture and international business within the university. His seminars were filled with lively discussions, and he cherished the connections he built with his students and colleagues.

During his time at NWU, Professor Noboriyama traveled extensively, representing the university in countries like China and Thailand. These trips helped strengthen the university’s global presence and foster international collaboration. In addition to his academic work, he was an active supporter of the university’s soccer club, creating lasting memories with students on and off the field.

Professor Noboriyama’s dedication to his students and his commitment to promoting cultural exchange have greatly enriched the university community.
